Well, it’s been a while since I updated this blog. Sorry about that! I PROMISE I will start uploading this thing more. My plan is to start introducing streamable podcasts versions of the Revolution Music Radio Show after they air on the FM frequency for all of you who aren’t able to tune in during the scheduled show times.

This week is CILU’s annual fund drive and, as part of the fund drive, I am asking all of you for your support in keeping CILU 102.7FM on the air. So please go to http://luradio.ca/fund and check out all the cool perks and prizes you can get when you donate.

Fund Drive Info – Intro to Fund Drive

As you might be aware, this week is CILU Radio’s annual fund drive so tonite, I’m going to take you back in time, and we’re going to listen to a bunch of Canadian music that I aired on this show way back in March of 2006, which 10 years ago this week. So anyway, as I mentioned, it is CILU Radio’s fund drive so make sure and go to luradio.ca and pledge your support to the only station in town that plays this kind of awesome canadian music, and the only station in town that is run by your friends in the local music community. Fund Drive’s aim is to raise money for Thunder Bay’s only campus and community radio station. Fund Drive is CILU’s biggest fundraising event of the year. This year from Saturday, March 5 to Friday, march 11, we are asking listeners to show their support for our station and for independent campus and community broadcasting in Thunder Bay. During this time period, we are suspending our regular programming and asking listeners for their support. Our Fund Drive’s aim is to raise money for CILU 102.7 FM – Thunder Bay’s only campus and community radio station. CILU is the only station in town that is programmed by local volunteers, featuring over 80 shows a week playing all sorts of grassroots programming from country and western, folk, classical, blues, jazz, rock, hip hop, punk and metal. The station is driven by support from people like you and me, people who want to hear local music on the air, people who are sick and tired of hearing the same old doobie brothers songs repeated every day on those other stations, man. HEre on revolution radio, we play the fringe and alternative music genres that the other station simply will not play. We play the most outrageous, progressive, cutting edge and extreme music on the air in the thunder bay area . Our show generally consists of a mix of brand new release metal, the best and most intense classic metal of all subgenres, and local metal and punk. We have regularly played big bands like Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan, Slayer, Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Blind Guardian, Judas Priest, i.e. all the bands that the other statios should be playing but aren’t.

Origins of show

This is your host speaking, Dr. Dr. Destructo. I originally started the revolution music radio show back in september of 2005 because i was sick of listening to the crap on the other stations that bored me nearly to death. cilu radio 102.7FM is a breath of fresh in air for the radio in thunder bay. while the other sattions playlists are phoned in from from marketing companies in toronto, cilu radio’s playlists are personally culled by people like me and you, people who love music and who love underground, independent and fringe music genres like the music on this radio show.

The reason I started this show back in 2005 is because I was sick and tired of hearing the crap that the other stations play which generally consists of a bunch of watered down boring programming. How many times a day can they continue to play 30 year old doobie brothers songs, man? I’ve been passionate about canadian music and heavy music since I was a little kid, and I wanted to bring my music passion to the airwaves. I had a vision for a radio show that was fast, furious and intense, and consisted of songs and bands that the other station would not play, bands like Black Sabbath, Black Flag, Minor Threat, Slayer, Municipal Waste, Sepultura. These are bands that a lot of people love but get absolutely no love on the mainstream stations in town. That’s why CILU is an important part of our community. We are the only station that is willing to take programmign risks and step outside the box and play music that is challenging, progressive and often obscure.
